Victoria Day, May 17-19

Looks like we skipped spring this year – from a very cold April and first half of May to temps in the 30’s (Centigrade!). Since the warm weather sent the Wenatchee flying up to 20,000 cfs, I opted for a trip up the Sunshine Coast and headed to Skooks for some fun rides. Less than a dozen boaters, but tons of spectators – usually it’s the other way around! On day 2 and 3 of the Victoria Day weekend I paddled the skinny kayak into the impressive fjord landscapes of Jervis Inlet and Hotham Sound. Camped on my own tiny private island near 500-meter high Freil Falls. Could hear the thundering water all night. My neighbors on the next island over were very noisy too. Lots of snorting, puffing and barking - I never knew that seals were that vocal.
