Vancouver Kayak Club Festival - May 1st

This was the 4th VKC Festival on the Chilliwack River. And its getting better every year. I have to confess due to the low water level and the promising flying weather... we didn’t even bring our kayaks.

Nevertheless we totally enjoyed the party, music by our friends from the band Switch, socializing with a bunch of paddling friends we hadn’t seen in a while and meeting a lot of new paddlers. The festival was a great success - excellent work by the organizers... looks like a new generation of kayakers has successfully taken over! (Good chances I can finally retire from being VKC pres at the next AGM;-).

VKC Whitewater Festival - totally awesome!

About 150 people showed up from many corners of the PNW and further afield (PG, WA, Alberta, Manitoba, Australia). Shuttles ran smoothly, camping set-up worked great, the downriver race went without a hitch and dinner was excellent (thanks for the flowers, Dave). Rain stopped on cue for the evening, when three VKC alumni entertained with stories from the past, prices for race and raffle were distributed and the band got everybody into perfect party mood including audience participation with a cow-bell solo and singing performances. Sunday came with sunshine, more river runs and other activities. Thanks to the many volunteers for putting on this excellent event (especially Christian and Farzana). Thanks to the sponsors for their help and the many great prices!

Pictures coming soon.

VKC Whitewater Festival, May 2-4

Preparation is in the final hectic stage. This will be quite the party – lots of on-water and of-water activities (playboating and canoe polo sessions, fun-race, nature walks, boat demos), Chili for dinner, a band, tons of gear to give away and raffle off. Now if only the water levels co-operate during the weather escapades this year. But with water or without, this will be an excellent weekend! More info on the VKC website.
